Hunters Unlimited Shows Move Dates & Location
The saying that nothing stays the same except change is very true. The Hunters Unlimited Hunter Show started off at The Manchester Saddle Club Show Grounds in 1979, which became the Animal Health Foundation before urban sprawl overcame the area. At that point we moved to Bridlespur Hunt Club, which was “way out in the country” at that point in time. In addition to being well traveled, the show has changed to meet the needs of local riders.
In the 1990’s when I was the eventing representative on the MHSA Board of Directors we added a combined test to increase opportunities for beginner to try out evening. A few years later we added dressage classes in response to exhibitor requests. After almost two decades at the Bridlespur Hunt Club, we combined the show with The Kirkwood Show when we were forced to move the dates.
I have always enjoyed running the show on the weekend closest to July 17, because it is my brother’s birthday and it has only rained twice on this date in the past 55 years. If you don’t believe me, ask my brother!
This show was merged with The Kirkwood Show because the MHSA sanctioned another show within a couple miles of our competition, on our dates for two years in a row.
Our date move was also accompanied by a physical move to the National Equestrian Center; just a stone throw down the road in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri. A much greater percentage of this facility is under cover, so the weather won’t be as big a concern.
We still offer dressage classes that are great for beginners, such as, suitability, dressage equitation and intro as well as classes for more advanced riders through second level. Combined training divisions are available from Super Novice with 18” cross rails through Preliminary Level with 3’7”jumps. Hunter classes will be offered for beginner horses and riders jumping cross rails to those riding jumpers.
